So, how many driving laws are you breaking every day?

BY KEVIN SAWYER – People drive how they tend to drive. The rules of the road, the driving laws, however, are always there but far too many people are just ignoring them. There are many driving laws that should be adhered to everyday but how many of us really know them and how many of us really stay within their guidelines? How many everyday road rules are you breaking every day?

  • Perhaps the most famous of them all is stopping at a stop sign. These days, in America, at least, the stop sign has become more of a rolling yield sign. Few actually stop at stop signs anymore unless, of course, there is a police cruiser sitting nearby.
  • According to the driving rules and laws, you can only pass someone using the left lane. This seems to have been abolished by popular decree. While police in many states have been trying to eliminate slower drivers from the left lane, it hasn’t worked out all that well. Having to watch both the left and the right lanes for passing traffic has become a serious hazard.
  • There are plenty of laws everywhere regarding using the cell phone and driving. It is against the law to talk or text while driving but it seems as if nearly everyone does it. It has become such a safety hazard that it has become the number reason for all vehicle accidents.
  • Pedestrians, forever, have always had the right of way on our roads and streets. That, in this self absorbed world, too, has seemingly gone by the wayside. One of the challenges is, again, the cell phone. So many are addicted to the device that they have no idea where they really are and many are causing accidents or even being run down because of them. So many pedestrians have to dodge traffic when they are rightfully in a cross walk and it isn’t getting any better. Anyway, if you see a pedestrian, you are suppose to stop or slow and let them pass.
  • While this can vary from state to state, being courteous enough to actually use your turn signal when turning has nearly gone out of style. Some states never use their turn signals but won’t cut you off. Some states use their turn signals but won’t hesitate to cut you off. Turn signals are the law never mind just being considerate to those around you.
