BY KEVIN SAWYER – It is the summer road trip season and anyone with children knows how trying they can be some times. Everyone, especially the kids, don’t take all that well to being in the car for too long. The classic “are we there, yet?” refrain may be put on hold with a few of these app’s designed to keep the kids entertained during those days on the road. Most are designed to be wi-fi free and to keep the children engaged and sharp for many hours.

  • Heads Up! Kids – This is the familiar game where a word appears on the screen and a player holds it up to their forehead while their team mate tries to give them clues.
  • Hand Art – It’s the traditional hangman game with words chosen directly from grade school reading programs that will entertain and teach at the same time.
  • Sago Mini Robot Party – This app allows the kids to create a silly or crazy robot of their own design. The parts are bendable and rubber like and allows for thousands of combinations.
  • MSQRD – Live Filters and Face Swap – This allows the user to venture in to create their own selfies and even put a siblings face on their own body or create some face art. You can even upload the creations to Facebook.
  • Thinkrolls 2 – This is the part two of this app series in which the player is increasingly challenged to swipe their way through tougher and tougher mazes.
  • Stack the States 2 – This is perfect for that cross country or multi state road trip. It teaches about each state and contains quizes about the material.  There are even 3D views of major points in the state including historical landmarks and major cities.
  • Finding Dory: Just Keep Swimming – Inspired by the Disney film, this app has 13 levels. It’s a fascinating maze game and the player can pause and stop the game any time and then pick up where they left off at a later time.
